WASHINGTON -- Washington goalie Olaf Kolzig continued his recent strong play with 43 saves, and Mike Grier, Matt Pettinger and Robert Lang each scored. Kolzig is 4-2-2 in his last eight starts despite the fact Washington has allowed at least 30 shots in each of its last 10 games -- and 40 shots in five of the last eight. New Jersey held a 44-26 advantage in shots. It was Washington's first game after Wednesday's trade of longtime Capital Peter Bondra to Ottawa.
Maple Leafs 2, Hurricanes 1, OT
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Darcy Tucker scored 2:18 into overtime to lift Toronto. Bryan McCabe scored a power-play goal in the first period for Toronto, and Mikael Tellqvist made 34 saves. Sean Hill scored midway through the third period for the Hurricanes.
Rangers 6, Islanders 2
NEW YORK -- Jaromir Jagr had a goal and an assist in his return from a groin injury, and Mike Dunham made 30 saves in a fight-filled game. The Rangers won their fifth straight over the Islanders. Eric Cairns and Dale Purinton fought with 3:54 remaining as a major scrum involving Islanders goalie Garth Snow broke out. Only Dunham stayed out of the fray. Purinton and Snow were ejected.
Canadiens 4, Flames 1
MONTREAL -- Pierre Dagenais scored twice and backup goalie Mathieu Garon made 19 saves. The Canadiens ended a season-high four-game losing streak. Patrice Brisebois and Niklas Sundstrom also scored for Montreal, which ended Calgary's third four-game winning streak this season. Jarome Iginla scored his 30th goal for the Flames.
Bruins 4, Flyers 3
PHILADELPHIA -- Boston rookie Patrice Bergeron scored an unassisted goal late in the second period. Bergeron, who also had an assist, snapped a 2-2 tie. Hal Gill, Rob Zamuner and Glen Murray also scored for the Bruins. John LeClair scored twice and Simon Gagne added a goal for the Flyers, who dropped their third straight game.
Blues 4, Lightning 3, OT
ST. LOUIS -- Doug Weight scored on a rebound at 1:06 of overtime to give the Blues their first three-game winning streak since mid-December. Dallas Drake had three assists in his 800th career game, helping set up Weight's third overtime goal of the season. The Blues also got goals from Christian Backman and Eric Boguniecki.
Sharks 6, Blackhawks 3
CHICAGO -- Marco Sturm had a goal and two assists, Patrick Marleau and Vincent Damphousse each had power-play goals and an assist for the Sharks. Wayne Primeau, Alexander Korolyuk and Jonathan Cheechoo also scored for San Jose. Sharks goalie Evgeni Nabokov was only lightly tested by the Blackhawks, making 31 saves. Tuomo Ruutu, Brett McLean and Bryan Berard scored for Chicago. Blackhawks goalie Craig Anderson made 24 saves.
Thrashers 3, Senators 2, OT
OTTAWA -- Shawn McEachern scored a power-play goal at 1:12 of overtime. Atlanta overcame a 2-0 deficit in the third period, with Ilya Kovalchuk scoring his NHL-leading 32nd goal with 10.1 seconds remaining and goalie Pasi Nurminen off for an extra attacker. Jeff Cowan also had a third-period goal. Peter Bondra scored in his first game with Ottawa since joining the team in a trade with Washington on Wednesday.
Wild 6, Canucks 2
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Marc Chouinard scored two goals for the Wild. Marian Gaborik, Andrew Brunette and Antti Laaksonen each had a goal and an assist, and Alex Henry had the first goal of his NHL career for the Wild. Laaksonen scored on a penalty shot in the first period. Vancouver goaltender Dan Cloutier gave up four goals on 10 shots before being replaced by Johan Hedberg in the second period.
