Crash leaves man in critical condition

POLAND -- A New Middletown man is in critical condition in St. Elizabeth Health Center following a two-car accident Friday afternoon at U.S. Route 224 and Struthers Road.
Injured in the 1:10 p.m. collision was Henry Popovich, 72, of Struthers Road, who was southbound on Struthers Road and stopped at a stop sign.
He then attempted to cross Route 224, when the car he was driving was hit by a westbound car on 224, which was being driven by Ralph Stofko, 55, of Aliquippa, Pa., according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The patrol's investigation is continuing.
Although the patrol said both men were taken to St. Elizabeth, a hospital spokeswoman said she could find no record of Stofko as a patient there.
