Miami beats Ball State, 62-55, on clutch foul shooting at end



MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) -- Juby Johnson scored 16 points and Chet Mason added 15 as Miami (Ohio) defeated Ball State 62-55 Monday night.
The Redhawks shot 78 percent at the foul line, including 11-of-11 in the final 5 minutes, 45 seconds, after managing just two trips to the line in the first half.
Monty Clair added 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting off the bench for Miami (13-8, 9-4 Mid-American Conference) as the Redhawks' reserves outscored Ball State's 25-11.
Cameron Echols scored 14 of his 16 points in the first half to lead the Cardinals (10-12, 7-7). Ball State shot 55 percent overall in the first half, but lost a 11-10 lead with 13 minutes to go.
Ball State trailed 33-29 at halftime and was held to 35 percent from the field the rest of the way.
The Cardinals got to within three points with three minutes remaining, but the Redhawks used a layup by Mason and five straight free throws to clinch the victory.
