BOYS HOOPS Shenango gets playoff victory



NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Shenango High boys basketball team defeated South Fayette 77-54 in a WPIAL Class AA first-round playoff game Wednesday.
The Wildcats (18-6), ahead 31-16 at the break, pulled away with a 24-13 scoring edge in the third quarter.
Shenango connected on 32-of-60 shots for 53 percent and it was 7-of-10 at the foul line.
Steve McMees paced Shenango's balanced attack with 19 points and he had 10 assists and five steals.
Terry Grossetti added 18 points and he grabbed 14 of his team's 30 rebounds, and had five assists. Matt Norge finished with 17 points.
Marques Parks took scoring honors for South Fayette with 21 points. Martin Yater added 13 points and Andrew DiDonato had 11.
Freeport 64, Farrell 62
WEXFORD, Pa. -- Freeport's Brent Ferko scored with seven seconds remaining to eliminate Farrell (12-12) from the Class AA playoffs.
Ferko had 24 points and Dave Bauman 22 for Freeport (16-5).
Clarence Clay led Farrell (12-12) with 23 points.
Badger 75, Bristol 48
KINSMAN -- Norm Yannucci had 18 points, while T.J. Yeager and Tyler Romine added 12 apiece for Badger (7-12) in a Northeastern Athletic Conference game. Brian Smith had nine points for Bristol (8-10).
