Blue Jackets fall again on the road

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Cam Severson was busy in his first 14 NHL games, piling up 38 penalty minutes.
But his entire hometown of Norquay, Saskatchewan, couldn't wait until he scored his first goal.
Severson got it Wednesday night when he converted a rebound in the crease to help the Anaheim Mighty Ducks beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-1. Back home, his parents saw it on television, with the help of a satellite dish.
"I'm going to be sending the puck to my parents because they've waited a long time for this," the 26-year-old left wing said. "From a little town with 500 people, the whole town gets behind you. So I'm excited to finally get that one."
Key goal
Vaclav Prospal got the go-ahead goal with 1:49 remaining in the third, and Sergei Fedorov scored into an empty net with six seconds remaining to help extend Anaheim's home winning streak to five games and Columbus' road winless streak to eight (0-5-3).
"Obviously, we're not happy with our road record (3-18-4-2), but there are a lot of encouraging signs these last 15 road games," goaltender Marc Denis said.
Prospal, whose goal with 32 seconds remaining cost Denis a shutout on Dec. 2 at Columbus, pounced on a loose puck in the left circle right after a faceoff and whipped it past Denis' glove for his 11th goal in 15 games.
The Ducks outshot the Blue Jackets 18-4 in the first period, but could do no better than a 1-1 tie because of Denis' acrobatics.
Sanderson, who has recorded eight of his 11 goals this season in the first period, opened the scoring at the 5:55 mark. Goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere went behind his net and cleared the puck around the boards, but Todd Marchant knocked it away from defenseman Lance Ward in the left corner and it bounced to a wide-open Sanderson in the low slot.
