Jail sentence delayedfor Indians' Bradley
CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Cleveland Indians outfielder Milton Bradley's three-day jail sentence that was to begin Tuesday has been delayed by an appeal.
Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Judge Lisa Coates signed a stay Tuesday that delays the sentence until after the Ninth District Court of Appeals rules on Bradley's appeal.
Bradley, 25, was charged with driving 52 mph in a 25-mph zone when he was arrested at 2:50 a.m. on Aug. 30.
Police said Bradley was issued a speeding ticket but would not sign it, rolled up his window and drove away. Officers followed Bradley with lights and sirens for more than two miles before Bradley drove into neighboring Stow.
Bradley pleaded guilty last week to a charge of obstructing official business, a second degree misdemeanor.
His attorney, Robert McIntyre, asked the judge Thursday to forgo any jail time for the ballplayer. McIntyre said the offense did not merit jail time and would hurt Bradley professionally.
Coates denied that request Friday.
Airport promotesdefunct Rockers
CLEVELAND -- An action photo of the WNBA's Rockers welcomes visitors at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. But there are no Rockers.
The Cavaliers/Gund Arena Co. pulled the plug in September because of faltering attendance and finances.
"I hadn't noticed," said Hopkins Commissioner Fred Szabo of the picture. "It's like a period piece."
Szabo said the promotional photos are the responsibility of the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Greater Cleveland, which operates the welcome counter.
DeAnn Hegidus, the bureau's communications director, said the photo will be replaced as soon as possible.
