No. 2 Connecticut 97, Pittsburgh 42
HARTFORD, Conn. -- Ashley Battle had 15 points and five steals and Connecticut cruised to victory over Pittsburgh. The Huskies (21-2, 11-1 Big East) have won 10 straight and dominated in every area of the game. Coach Geno Auriemma emptied his bench late in the first half and by the final buzzer the reserves accounted for 56 points. Katie Histed and Jennifer Brown each had 12 points each for the overmatched Panthers (6-17, 2-11), who have lost nine straight. Liz Sherwood, UConn's reserve freshmen center, scored a career-high 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Diana Taurasi added 11 points for UConn and led the Huskies with eight assists. UConn hit 7 3-pointers in the first half and scored 26 points on turnovers to build a 56-21 lead. The half featured a decisive 30-4 run that included 10 points by Sherwood.
No. 9 Texas Tech 73, Missouri 68
COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Chesley Dabbs scored 14 points and Erin Grant hit a driving shot with 11 seconds left to help secure Texas Tech's victory over Missouri. Texas Tech (22-4, 8-4 Big 12) had to hold on in a frantic finish after leading by 14 points with less than 12 minutes to play. Missouri (13-10, 4-8) started getting the defensive stops it needed down the stretch and rallied with a 9-1 run, cutting the lead to 69-68 on Evan Unrau's two free throws with 1:24 left. The Tigers had a chance to take the lead after Grant threw away an inbounds pass, but MyEsha Perkins missed a jumper and Alesha Robertson rebounded for Tech. Unrau led Missouri with 17 points and 10 rebounds and Stretch James scored 15 points.
