Senate OKs manufactured-home regulation bill

COLUMBUS -- An Ohio Manufactured Homes Commission would be created to regulate the installation of manufactured and mobile homes, under a bill the Ohio Senate passed Wednesday.
Senators passed the bill 32-1 and forwarded it to the House of Representatives, sponsored by state Sen. Lynn R. Wachtmann, a Napoleon Republican.
Federal law requires that if a state wants to regulate the installation of manufactured housing and the installers of manufactured housing, the state must have an installation regulation program in place by Dec. 27, 2005.
Ohio doesn't have a program to license manufactured or mobile homes.
Under the bill, the commission would be required to establish rules and standards governing installation of mobile homes.
The House has yet to assign the bill to a committee for further study.
