Police arrest two men in armed robbery of Gilkinson's Drive-Thru
EAST LIVERPOOL -- Two men charged in an armed robbery of Gilkinson's Drive-Thru at 1068 Dresden Ave. were to appear in municipal court early today.
Detective Don Fickes of the East Liverpool Police Department said Douglas A. Fortson, 38, of Burgettstown, Pa., is charged with armed robbery, a first-degree felony. Police found he is also wanted on a charge of automobile theft in Florida.
Fickes said Mark Foden, 33, of Park Place Avenue, East Liverpool, is charged with complicity to aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony.
The robbery took place about 11:18 p.m. Tuesday, but police did not find the men in a search of the area. Fickes said an officer on the midnight shift Wednesday stopped a car he recognized from the store's surveillance video and found the driver was Foden, whom he knew.
Police said they also searched a house in St. Clair Township and caught Fortson, who jumped out a window in an attempt to escape.
Fickes said Fortson pointed a handgun at a clerk at the cash register in the drive-through portion of the store and demanded money. Fortson emptied the cash register and the men fled, Fickes said.
There were two employees and the store owner in the drive-through at the time of the robbery. No one was injured.
Failing to post $25,000 bond each, Foden and Fortson are being held in the Columbiana County Jail.
