Purse: $4.8 million. Winner's share: $864,000.
Television: USA (Thursday-Friday, 3-6 p.m.) and ABC (Saturday, 3-6 p.m.; Sunday, 3-6:30 p.m.).
Last year: Canada's Mike Weir won the second of his three 2003 titles, beating Charles Howell III on the second hole of a playoff after overcoming a seven-stroke deficit in the final round.
Last week: John Daly won the Buick Invitational for his first PGA Tour victory since the 1995 British Open, beating Luke Donald and Chris Riley on the first hole of a playoff. Daly hit a 100-foot bunker shot within 4 inches to set up his winning birdie.
Notes: Tiger Woods, coming off a 10th-place tie last week at Torrey Pines, is winless in his hometown event. He made his first tour appearance in the 1992 tournament. Then 16, he missed the cut with rounds of 72 and 75. ... Ben Hogan stamped the course as "Hogan's Alley" with three victories in 17 months -- the 1947 and 1948 Los Angeles Opens and 1948 U.S. Open. .... The Chrysler Classic of Tucson also is next week.
CHAMPIONS TOUR
Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am
Schedule: Friday-Sunday.
Course: TPC of Tampa Bay, Lutz, Fla. (6,638 yards, par 71).
Purse: $1.6 million. Winner's share: $240,000.
Television: The Golf Channel (Friday-Saturday, 1:30-4 p.m., 9-11:30 p.m.; Sunday, 2-4:30 p.m., 9-11:30 p.m.).
Last year: Bruce Fleisher closed with a 67 for a one-stroke victory over Hale Irwin.
Last week: Craig Stadler won the Ace Group Classic, making a 27-foot birdie putt on the first hole of a playoff with Tom Watson and Gary Koch. Stadler has four victories in 16 starts on the Champions Tour, and also won the PGA Tour's B.C. Open last year.
Notes: Fleisher won the Royal Caribbean Classic two weeks ago. He has 17 victories in six seasons on the Champions Tour. ... The tour is off next week. Play will resume March 5-7 with the MasterCard Classic in Mexico City.
ASIAN PGA TOUR/PGA EUROPEAN TOUR
Malaysian Open
Schedule: Thursday-Sunday.
Course: Saujana Golf and Country Club, Palm Course, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (6,947 yards, par 72).
Purse: $1.21 million. Winner's share: $201,800.
Television: The Golf Channel (Thursday-Friday, 2:30-4:30 a.m.; Saturday-Sunday, 12:30-3:30 a.m.).
Last year: India's Arjun Atwal won his second European tour title, beating South Africa's Retief Goosen and Australia's Brad Kennedy by four strokes at The Mines.
Last week: England's Brian Davis won the ANZ Championship in Port Stephens, Australia, edging countryman Paul Casey by a point in the modified Stableford event co-sanctioned by the European and Australasian tours. ... Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee won the Myanmar Open, his second Asian tour victory in two months. American Andrew Pitts was second, three strokes back.
Notes: Scotland's Colin Montgomerie tops the field along with Ireland's Padraid Harrington and Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez, the Johnnie Walker Classic winner three weeks ago in Thailand.
NATIONWIDE TOUR/AUSTRALASIAN PGA TOUR
Jacob's Creek Open
Schedule: Thursday-Sunday.
Course: Kooyonga Golf Club, Adelaide, Australia (6,740 yards, par 71).
Purse: $630,000. Winner's share: $115,000.
Television: The Golf Channel (Thursday-Sunday, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.).
Last year: Joe Ogilvie beat Australia's Shane Tait by a stroke, finishing with a 5-under 279 total.
Last week: England's Brian Davis won the ANZ Championship in Port Stephens, edging countryman Paul Casey by a point in the modified Stableford event co-sanctioned by the European and Australasian tours.
Notes: Former Baylor player Jimmy Walker won his first Nationwide Tour title two weeks ago, taking the season-opening Panama Championship by five strokes. ... The two tours will team again next week for the New Zealand PGA in Christchurch.
