Leadership group to honor Valley residents



Two individuals and two couples have been chosen for leadership awards.
LIBERTY -- Leadership Mahoning Valley will honor six prominent Mahoning Valley residents, one of them posthumously, at its annual awards dinner at 6 p.m. Monday at the Holiday Inn MetroPlex.
The keynote speaker is Dr. Wendy E. Webb, assistant superintendent of the Youngstown City Schools, who will become superintendent upon the retirement of Benjamin McGee this summer.
The organization will present the following awards:
UCommunity Leadership Association's Distinguished Leadership Award: Thomas S. Conley, chief executive officer of the Warren-Trumbull Urban League and a member of the Liberty Board of Education.
U Association for Community Leadership Distinguished Program Award: Dr. Sandra J. DiBacco-Tusinac, Struthers schools superintendent.
UOhio Association for Community Leadership Outstanding Community Leadership Award: Bruce and Carol Sherman, owners of Sherman Creative Promotions, a specialty advertising business in Boardman.
ULeadership Mahoning Valley Civic Leadership Award: F.W. (Bill) Knecht, who died Jan. 28, and his widow, Connie. Knecht was owner of Grove City-based Wendell August Forge and a Youngstown State University trustee. Mrs. Knecht has been active in civic affairs, including participation and leadership in the Mahoning County Republican Party, Boardman PTAs and numerous community agencies and groups in the Mahoning Valley.
