ICL/TCL McDonald topples Lowellville with third-quarter rally 53-44
Mineral Ridge and Jackson-Milton also won league contests.
LOWELLVILLE -- The McDonald High boys basketball team fell behind 22-21 at halftime, but used a 12-4 third-quarter run to pull past Lowellville for a 53-44 Inter-County League victory on Tuesday.
Nick Testa scored 16 points to pace the Blue Devils (11-6, 8-4), while Mark Macali chipped in with 15 and James Beedle had 11.
Jack Noble led the Rockets (4-13, 3-8) with 16 points.
Mineral Ridge 71, South Range 60
MINERAL RIDGE -- The Rams (8-10, 6-7 ICL) held a 37-26 lead by intermission.
Jason Garland scored 21 points to lead the Rams (8-10, 6-7), while Vince Keirsey added 19 and grabbed 17 of 52 rebounds. Brandon Linert finished with 14 points and Tim Persin had five assists.
John Less led the Raiders (2-16, 1-12) with 18 points. Jordan Taylor added 14.
Jackson-Milton 69, Mathews 51
NORTH JACKSON -- The Bluejays (7-9, 5-6 ICL) built a 30-21 lead by the break and the Mustangs couldn't recover.
Tim Shaw took scoring honors with 24 points and he grabbed 14 of 29 rebounds and had three steals. Zack Nicholas added 14 points and had nine assists. Mark Balent scored 13 points, and Andrew Whitmer had eight assists.
Chris Vesey led the Mustangs (7-10, 6-6) with 22 points. Adam Hughes finished with 10.
Crestview 63, Columbiana 50
EAST FAIRFIELD -- Nick Hoff scored 19 of his 27 points in the first half when the Rebels built a 32-23 lead in a Tri-County League game.
Kade Neiheisel scored 13 of his 14 points in the final quarter for the Rebels (11-8, 6-7).
Jason Beachler had eight rebounds, and Hoff made six 3-pointers for Crestview.
For the Clippers (11-7, 7-5), Austen Couchenour scored 16 points.
United 84, Leetonia 42
HANOVERTON -- Mitch Phillis (18 points), Corey Manfull (16), Tyler Boyle (12), Jake Roelen (12) and Bubba Taylor (10) contributed to United's victory.
Phillis had nine rebounds for United (14-3, 10-3 TCL).
Corey Creamer paced the Bears (1-16, 0-11) with 14 points and Cody Tittle had 13.
Lisbon 73, Southern 40
LISBON -- Lucian Smith scored 21 points and Lisbon raced to a 22-8 first-quarter lead to take control.
Mike McDevitt scored 14 points and Jay Yorty added 12 for Lisbon (13-4, 10-3 TCL).
Josh Diaz scored 22 points to lead Southern (8-10, 3-10).
