Heard Deanna Clifford, director of community relations for District XI Area Agency on Aging, urge support of the 1-mill Mahoning County senior service property tax levy on the March 2 ballot. The new levy, which would cost the owner of a $40,000 home about $1 a month, would fund additional home-delivered meals, transportation and prescriptions for senior citizens, who now comprise 22 percent of the county's population, she said.
Honored firefighters for their professionalism and valor during a rescue in a fire Dec. 31 at 602 W. Delason Ave. Two victims were found in heavy smoke in a second floor bedroom next to the fire and rescued, but later died. Authorized a development agreement under which the city will provide 3.5 acres at the Ohio Works industrial site for $1 to Superior Chemical Products Co., which will build a $900,000 plant there to replace its Hubbard Road plant, which was flooded three times last summer. The project is to retain 14 jobs and create three. The city will also provide a 75-percent, 10-year real and personal property tax abatement for the project. "They've been in the community for 75 years, and we want to make sure they stay," said Jeff Chagnot, economic development director.

Authorized the board of control to allow the Ohio Department of Transportation to do rehabilitation and bridge work on Interstate 680 between Steel Street and West Delason Avenue and a bridge on Wellington Avenue over I-680. The city's only cost on the projects is to install or repair curbs at necessary intersections.
