STRUTHERS Schools extend leader's contract

The board accepted donations of calculators, books and cassette tapes.

STRUTHERS -- The board of education extended the contract of Superintendent Sandra J. DiBacco, approved the retirement of several educators and appointed employees to fill vacant positions during a regular meeting Tuesday.
Without discussion, DiBacco's contract as superintendent of schools was renewed for four years, Aug. 1, 2005, to July 31, 2009. It was the last item on the agenda. Board members David Barone and Sheri L. Noble cast the only dissenting votes.
DiBacco's salary is $79,684.
Other business
Earlier in the meeting, the board unanimously approved the retirement of June Logan, principal of Struthers Elementary School, effective June 30.
The board also approved:
URetirement of Joseph Mogulich, health and physical education teacher, Struthers High School, effective June 30.
URetirement of Amelia Cwynar, special services secretary, effective July 1.
UResignation of Brandy Cammack from her supplemental position as assistant junior varsity softball coach for the 2003-04 academic year.
UAppointment of Daniel J. Dota III to health and physical education teacher at Struthers High School effective with the 2004-05 academic year.
UAppointment of Christie Zetts to assistant junior varsity softball coach for the 2003-04 academic year.
UAppointment of James Dill to afternoon custodian at Struthers High School retroactive to Feb. 3.
UAppointment of Fran Burell and Cindy Brown, bus drivers, to the after-school programs at Struthers Elementary School.
UAppointment of Dylan R. Thomas to student helper in the computer tech lab effective Jan. 20, 2004.
UAppointment of Bob Rohrman as volunteer coach for the high school soccer club for the 2004-05 academic year.
UExtension of the long-term substitute teacher status of Marianne Kapusinski to the end of the current academic year. Kapusinski is substituting for Robert Zanni, whose military leave has been extended to Aug. 2004.
URental of Struthers High School memorial gymnasium for $2,100 to Eric Ryan Productions for a Sno Core Tour 2004 Concert on March 17. Bands to perform include Trapt, Smile Empty Soul, Finger Eleven and Strata.
URental of Struthers Middle School auditorium to Kathy Garovich of Dance Dimensions for rehearsal June 14 and a recital June 15.
UBidding out of plans for construction of tennis courts at the Sexton Street property and baseball fields at the Center Street property.
URequest by Ed Stiles, band director, to take the Struthers High School Band to New York City from June 7 through June 11.
The board also accepted donations of calculators, books and cassette tapes for use in various math classes and the school libraries. Donors are Joseph Sylvester, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Edwards and Cindy Chudik.
