THE ART OF STEEL Shadows of the past at university

Above, Steve Reed, an employee of Linton Construction of New Castle, Pa., works amid shadows cast by a new gate being installed at Bliss Hall at Youngstown State University. At right, Reed welds a hinge on the gate. The steel gate was installed Monday in the addition courtyard across from Smoky Hollow. Greg Moring, an associate professor of art at YSU, created the gate as a companion to a 1,600-pound gate that stands more than 14 feet tall and 12 feet wide and was installed nearby. This smaller gate was on display at the McDonough Museum. The gates contain depictions of the steel industry.
