RALEIGH, N.C. -- Marcus Melvin scored 18 points and Julius Hodge made two clutch free throws with seven seconds remaining to lead No. 21 North Carolina State to a 78-74 victory over top-ranked Duke Sunday, snapping the Blue Devils' 18-game winning streak.
The win moved the Wolfpack (16-5, 9-2) within one game of the Blue Devils (21-2, 10-1) with five Atlantic Coast Conference games remaining.
The Wolfpack shot 52 percent from the field and the nation's top free throw shooting team made 12 straight from the line over the final 1:10 to seal the program's first win over a top-ranked team since beating North Carolina in February 1998.
N.C. State has won five straight ACC regular season games for the first time in 30 years.
J.J. Redick had 28 points for Duke, which last lost to Purdue Nov. 29 in the championship game of the Great Alaska Shootout. The Blue Devils have been ranked No. 1 for the last four weeks.

PITTSBURGH -- Jaron Brown scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half, four during a pivotal 11-0 run, and Pittsburgh stayed in the Big East Conference lead.
The Panthers (23-3, 9-2) extended their homecourt winning streak to 40 games -- the longest in Division I. Pitt is 18-0 at home this season and 34-0 since the Petersen Events Center opened last season.
Pitt (23-2, 9-2) held off the Huskies with some uncommonly accurate free throw shooting. The Panthers, 11th among the 14 Big East teams at the foul line, finished 24-of-33 to UConn's 9-of-19.
Ben Gordon scored 23 points for the Huskies (19-5, 7-3), who lost consecutive games for the first time this season.
Nebraska 74, No. 12 Kansas 55
LINCOLN, Neb. -- Andrew Drevo, John Turek and Nate Johnson each scored 14 points to lead Nebraska to its third straight win overall and its first victory in 10 meetings with Kansas.
Brian Conklin (Hubbard) had nine points for Nebraska (14-7, 4-6 Big 12) on 3-of-4 shooting from 3-point range.
Wayne Simien led Kansas (15-6, 7-3) with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Freshman Chris Paul scored a career-high 30 points to lead Wake Forest (15-6) to its first win in six meetings with Cincinnati. Paul also had a career-high seven rebounds and added four assists. Tony Bobbitt had 23 points for the Bearcats (17-4), who lost for the third time in five games.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Rashad McCants scored 25 points and Jawad Williams added 23 for North Carolina. Sean May and Jackie Manuel each scored 14 points for the Tar Heels (15-7, 5-6 ACC), who avenged took a 20-point halftime lead then held off Maryland's rally in the second half. Chris McCray scored 16 points for the Terrapins (13-8, 4-6), who had won five of the last six meetings, while Jamar Smith added 14.
