Phantoms lose 6-1
STRONGSVILLE -- The Youngstown Phantoms, playing their third game in less than 48 hours, fell behind 3-0 in the first period and eventually lost 6-1 to the Cleveland Barons Sunday.
Aaron Rhyner scored the only goal of the game for the Phantoms. Rhyner, who leads Youngstown with 20 goals, scored on a power play, off an assist by Charley Fetzer. Cleveland scored four of its six goals on power plays and outshot the Phantoms, 33-27.
Youngstown (21-17-7) remains in third place in the North Division of the North American Hockey League.
Groselle namedswimmer of year
CANTON -- Hiram College sophomore Beth Groselle was named women's swimmer of the year Saturday night after her performance in the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships at C.T. Branin Natatorium.
Groselle won two events, finished second in another, set two school records and automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships.
Groselle won the 100-yard freestyle in a school-record time of 51.86 seconds. Earlier in the championships, she won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.40) and finished second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:07.86).
She automatically qualified in all three events for next month's national championships in St. Peters, Mo.
Grove City,Westminster win
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Westminster College women's swimming team captured its second consecutive Presidents' Athletic Conference swimming & amp; diving championship Saturday.
Westminster finished with 798 points, followed by Washington & amp; Jefferson (751), Grove City (707) and Bethany (98).
Grove City captured the team crown on the men's side with 799 points, followed by Westminster (716), W & amp;J (601) and Bethany (306).
Westminster's Ryan Trunk was named men's swimmer of the year and Rob Klamut was named women's coach of the year.
Poland ties, 4-4
BOARDMAN -- Jim Pasquino scored three goals in Poland's 4-4 tie with North Allegheny Sunday at The Ice Zone.
Rob Wyand scored Poland's other goal and had two assists. Brett Pitzulo had three assists and Cody Hiznay made 22 saves.
Wes Waldschmitt's goal with 5:27 remaining in the third period for North Allegheny tied the score at 4. Waldschmitt also had an assist.
Cameron Egerter, Marc Bridge and C.J. Cooper also scored goals for North Allegheny.

Philadelphia Park spill injures two jockeys
BENSALEM, Pa. -- Little Diva broke down in the 10th race Sunday at Philadelphia Park, causing a five-horse spill that left two jockeys with minor injuries.
Ridden by Tony Black, Little Diva was in the lead when she went down, and four others in the 11-horse field for the day's final race also tumbled.
Black and jockey Anibal Prado were taken to a hospital. Black was treated for a possible concussion and a thumb injury, and Prado with an arm fracture, track officials said.
Little Diva suffered leg and internal injuries and was destroyed. The other horses weren't seriously injured.
Baseball author dies
NEW YORK -- Lawrence S. Ritter, who wrote the baseball classic "The Glory of Their Times," died Sunday. He was 81.
Ritter had a series of strokes and died at his apartment in New York, according to Marty Appel, a regular at Ritter's monthly gathering of baseball writers.

Clijsters wins easilyat Gaz de France
PARIS -- Top-seeded Kim Clijsters overwhelmed Mary Pierce 6-2, 6-1 Sunday to win the Gaz de France for her 20th career title.
New recordin pole vault
MOSCOW -- Russia's Yelena Isinbayeva broke the indoor pole vault world record by an inch with a leap of 15 feet, 10 inches Sunday at the Pole Vault Stars meet in Donetsk, Ukraine.
Isinbayeva bettered the mark of 15-9 set by countrywoman Svetlana Feofanova last year in Birmingham, England. The mark also is better than Isinbayeva's own world outdoor mark of 15-93/4, set last July.
Bode Miller endslong winless streak
ST. ANTON, Austria -- American Bode Miller won his first World Cup slalom in two years Sunday, helping him move into third place in the overall standings.
Miller covered the Sonnenwiese course in a two-run combined time of 1 minute, 34.60 seconds, finishing 0.95 seconds ahead of Finland's Kalle Palander.
Miller stood motionless for several moments after seeing his name appear at the top of the scoreboard, then lightly punched his fists and poles into the air while "Born in the U.S.A." blared from loudspeakers.
Germany's Moellerwins luge world title
NAGANO, Japan -- David Moeller of Germany won the men's singles event Sunday at the luge world championships.
Moeller won with a combined time of 1:39.150. Compatriot Georg Hackl was second, 0.008 seconds behind, and Latvia's Martins Rubenis was third in 1:39.347.
American Tony Benshoof finished in ninth place in 1:39.776.
