OLIVET, Mich. -- Sophomores Aaron Gibbs (Canonsburg, Pa) and Nate Santelli (Canonsburg, Pa.) finished second in their respective weight classes as they led Thiel to a fourth-place finish (92.5 pts.) at the Mid-States Conference Tournament.
Gibbs (19-2) picked up a 17-2 decision over Olivet's Matt Andrews and a fall (3:08) over Chris Henry of MacMurray before falling to Manchester's Jerald Ridley 5-1 in the 165-pound championship bout.
Santelli (18-17) earned a 12-3 decision over Mt. Saint Joseph's Josh Akers before defeating Olivet's Andy Kosinski 13-4 and Manchester's Paul Sorenson 6-1. Santelli lost to Joe Seger of Wabash 8-5 in the 184-pound championship match.
Senior T.J. Albright (Freedom HS) finished third at 197 pounds and sophomore Ted Mangan (Keystone Oaks HS) also grabbed a third-place finish at 157 pounds.
Freshman Corey Murphy (Corry, Pa.) improved to 23-18 on the season by going 3-1 and taking third at 149.
Sophomore Kyle Brown (Meadville, Pa.) improved to 14-9 at 285 pounds, going 2-2 and finishing fifth. Sophomore Shawn Julock (Indiana, PA/Indiana) also finished fifth, going 1-2 in the 125-pound bracket.
Thiel is hosting the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) 2004 Wrestling Championships at 6 p.m. on Feb. 19 at the Rissell-Beeghly Gym.
