GIRLS BASKETBALL Salem routs Niles for 19th straight



Steffi Graf led Poland past Howland in the MAC.
NILES -- The Salem High girls basketball team concluded the regular-season Saturday with a 19-game winning streak after defeating Niles, 60-31.
The Quakers, the top seed at the Fitch Division II tournament, won the Metro Athletic Conference with a 12-0 record.
Salem jumped out to a 16-7 lead in the first quarter, then increased that margin to 29-13 by the break.
Alyson Cotter paced Salem with 14 points . She also grabbed eight of 24 rebounds and had six steals.
Stacia Ray, Shannon Floyd and Jaclyn Sears paced the Red Dragons (9-9, 4-8) with eight points each. Ray pulled down five rebounds and Floyd had five steals.
Poland 47, Howland 28
POLAND -- Steffi Graf, who started four years for the Bulldogs, played her last home game and led Poland with 16 points.
The Bulldogs (13-6, 9-3 MAC) had a commanding 31-16 lead at intermission.
Erin Hawkins chipped in with 11 points and Dee Muransky finished with 10.
Ana Cvengros led the Tigers (10-9, 6-6) with 14 points.
Hubbard 59, Lakeview 38
HUBBARD -- Lynle Cornell scored 24 points and Loni Sargent 12 for the Eagles (13-5, 11-2) in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game.
Ahead 28-24 at halftime, the Eagles outscored the Bulldogs (7-11, 6-7) 17-1 in the third quarter.
Lindsay Whetzel led Lakeview with 11.
Champion 60, Newton Falls 29
NEWTON FALLS -- Jessica Wood scored 10 of her 13 points in the first half as Champion took a commanding 28-6 halftime lead.
Elizabeth Ghindia added 13 points for the Flashes (8-11, 4-9).
Kortni Collins and Molly Lenarcic each scored eight to lead Newton Falls (3-16, 2-11).
Warren Harding 38, Chaney 29
YOUNGSTOWN -- Warren Harding managed to convert steals into layups in the second half, helping the Raiders to victory.
Desirae Jenkins had a game-high 16 points, 12 of which came in the second half.
Courtney Williams and Lavielle Trevathan had eight points apiece for Chaney, while junior power forward Quiana Faison had 11 rebounds.
Ursuline 66, Bedford Chanel 32
BEDFORD -- Courtney Davidson scored 23 points while Tyra Grant had 19 with seven rebounds for Ursuline (18-2), which surged to a 38-7 halftime advantage.
Mooney 54, Jefferson 48
JEFFERSON -- Gina Brunetti had 18 points and Amber Bodrick tacked on 10 for Cardinal Mooney, which snapped a four-game losing streak.
Bodrick, a junior, scored six of her points in the third when Mooney outscored the home team, 13-8, to take a 40-36 lead.
Lowellville 60, Jackson-Milton 25
NORTH JACKSON -- Junior guard Amanda Nero collected three 3-point goals, 24 points and nine steals for the Rockets (14-4, 10-2 ICL). Rebecca Basista was in with eight points and nine rebounds while Kaitlin McCarthy passed out five assists.
