WARREN -- City firefighters battled a fire in a vacant house at the intersection of Union and York Streets Southwest. There was no number on the single-story wood-frame structure, fire officials said. The cause of the fire, reported at 8:58 p.m., and the amount of damage it caused were undetermined at press time.
Levy committee plansinformational breakfast
GIRARD -- Girard City School Operating Levy Committee will have an informational breakfast Tuesday at 8 a.m. at the Girard Multigenerational Center on Trumbull Hill.

Penn State open house
SHARON, Pa. -- Penn State Shenango will have a Winter Open House at 6 p.m. Thursday for junior and senior high school students interested in learning about the campus.

Book sale planned
POLAND -- The Friends Bookstore in the lower level of Poland Library, 311 S. Main St., will have a book sale the first week of March. The bookstore is a project of the new Friends of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County.
The book sale will help the Friends clear the shelves so new materials can be added for an event to be announced soon. Book sale hours will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. March 1 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 2-6.
