ELLWOOD CITY Domestic dispute ends up deadly

ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. -- Authorities are investigating an apparent homicide-suicide that took the lives of Marianne Gebhart and her former husband, Gary Gebhart.
Samuel Teolis, Lawrence County deputy coroner, said Marianne Gebhart, 46, of Lawrence Avenue, went to the apartment of Gary Gebhart, 53, in the basement of the house they both own at 1021 Sunset Boulevard shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday.
At 1:25 p.m., Gary Gebhart called a neighbor to come to the apartment, Teolis said. Police said they were called around 1:47 p.m. to respond to a domestic dispute at the house. It was unclear who called police.
The scene
The neighbor found Marianne lying dead on the floor and Gary on the couch bleeding, Teolis said. Gary Gebhart was taken to Ellwood City Hospital and transferred to UPMC's Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, where he died at 5:12 p.m., Teolis said.
Marianne Gebhart had bullet wounds of the head and stomach and was pronounced dead at the scene, Teolis said. An autopsy was scheduled for today.
Gary Gebhart suffered a gunshot wound of the head and Allegheny County authorities are to perform an autopsy today, Teolis said.
A .22-caliber handgun, owned by Gary Gebhart, was found at the scene, he said.
Marianne Gebhart was employed as an executive assistant with the Ellwood City Chamber of Commerce. Gary Gebhart recently retired from the U.S. Postal Service at the Warrendale Post Office, Teolis said.
Divorced in July
The couple had divorced in July, but both still owned the house on Sunset Boulevard, he said.
Marianne's son, Gary Gebhart's stepson, lived in a first-floor apartment in the Sunset Boulevard home with his wife and two children, but they were not home at the time of the shooting, Teolis said.
