BOYS Springfield romps; Beaver Local rallies



Boardman defeated Massillon Jackson in a Federal League tournament contest.
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Marc Russell and Aaron Wood scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, Saturday as the Springfield High boys basketball team routed Jackson-Milton, 57-40.
Andrew Schuler scored 10 points for the Tigers (10-7, 7-5 Inter-County League).
Tim Shaw led the Bluejays (6-9, 4-6) with 22 points.
Mathews 79, South Range 48
NORTH LIMA -- Chris Vesey poured in 20 points to lead Mathews' strong overall attack.
Matt Weymer added 13 points, Tyler Stanton 12, Paul Belany 11 and Ian Paddick 10 to support the Mustangs (7-9, 6-5 ICL).
Jordan Taylor led South Range (2-15, 1-11) with 22 points.
Ursuline 57, Canton Central 43
YOUNGSTOWN -- Jerome Jones and Terrell Zidale scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Irish (6-12). Branndon Braxton scored 10 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and made five assists.
Fred Harold's 20 points led the Crusaders (5-12).
Boardman 44, Massillon Perry 36
BOARDMAN -- Junior Nick Ludban scored four of his 10 points in a 14-point third quarter when the Spartans erupted from a 21-20 halftime deficit.
Ludban concluded with five rebounds for the Spartans (7-10, 3-6 Federal League).
Senior Mike DeOnofrio had 16 points, four rebounds, two steals and an assist for Boardman while Jay Davis was in with nine points, four rebounds and two assists.
Beaver Local 73, Crestview 72
EAST FAIRFIELD -- The Beavers (13-4) rallied after giving up 35 points in the second quarter.
Trailing 48-27 at halftime, Jake Robinson (21 points) and Justin Montgomery (17 points) went on a second-half tear, with Montgomery scoring nine points in the fourth quarter including seven free throws. Steve Mercer also scored 17.
For Crestview (10-7), Jason Beachler scored 19 points, Ross Mercer 15, Ken Wagonhauser 14 and Cade Neuheisel 10.
Cornerstone 76, Youngstown Christian 68
GENEVA -- Dan Weybrecht had four 3-point goals to help toward his game-high 29 pointsas Cornerstone prevailed, 76-68, in a game against a future East Suburban Conference opponent.
Senior Mike Byrdy had 21 points while Mike Pecchia, also a senior, added 12 points for Youngstown, which will join the ESC next season.
