Sweet music fills the air at Bliss Hall

Flute players took center stage at the 11th annual Dana Flute Festival at Youngstown State University's Bliss Hall. Above, Amy Porter, special guest artist from the University of Michigan, right, gave some instruction Saturday to Eduardo Mandujano-Aguillar, a YSU senior flute major, during the festival's master-class segment. At right, Emily Meals, 11, of Poland plays a piece during a workshop. More than 150 flute players from around the area participated. Other festival clinicians and ensemble directors were Janet Becker, a free-lance performer; John Veneskey of the Dana School of Music; and Wendy Webb Kumer, founder and director of The Flute Academy, Oakland, Pa. Festival coordinator was Kathryn Thomas Umble, the Dana School's instructor of flute.
