Service held for college player killed in crash
DALLAS (AP) -- Funeral services were held Saturday for one of two Navarro College basketball players killed in a van crash.
Jason Rashard Trier, 18, of Giddings, died Monday night when an 18-wheeler struck a team van after a game at Paris Junior College. His funeral was held in Killeen, with burial in Wiemer.
Pa Sarr, 21, of the African country Gambia also was killed. His body is expected to be returned to his homeland.
Five other players and two coaches were injured.
Chris Gonzalez, a freshman from Chicago, was in serious condition Saturday at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas and Elijah Coppock, a sophomore from Columbus, Ga., was in serious condition at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, the hospitals said.
Player Edward Horton of Shreveport, La., was in fair condition and player Roberto Flores of Durango, Mexico, was in good condition at Paris Regional Medical Center, hospital spokesman Derald Bulls said.
On Friday, school officials said the team will play the last four games of its season.
The team canceled Saturday's home game with Blinn College, but will continue its season with Wednesday night's game against Lon Morris College in Jacksonville.
