HALL OF FAME Cardinal Mooney High School



The Cardinal Mooney Hall of Fame is holding induction ceremonies today. The following are being honored:
James E. Boniface, M.D. (football, class of '81) -- An All-SVC receiver, he led the 1980 team in interceptions, receptions and receiving yardage. He also won four letters in track.
Jim Colla (football, '70) -- He earned All-Diocesan and All-NEO honors as an offensive lineman and later played at Miami (Ohio) and served as assistant coach at Mooney and head coach at Brookfield.
Melanie Congemi-Stitt (track, '86) -- She earned four letters, was all-conference four times and All-Ohio three years. She still holds school records in the 400 meters and three relays. She also lettered in cross country and qualified for nationals in the 400. She was twice academic All-Southeastern Conference at Mississippi and later coached at Youngstown State.
Devlin Culliver (football, '86) -- He was an all-star on both sides of the ball, setting a season record for interceptions. He was Mid-American Conference freshman of the year at Ohio University and is the coach at Warrensville High.
Atty. Jamie Dunn (basketball, '68) -- He was the team's leading scorer as a junior and senior, and a standout quarterback as well, earning all-star honors in both sports. He later won four letters at Walsh University and is currently the girls basketball coach at Poland High.
Mike Giambattista (football/baseball, '82) -- He earned seven letters at Mooney in baseball, football and basketball. As a senior, he batted above .300 and won nine games as pitcher. In football, he earned several all-star awards as a linebacker, including All-Ohio as a senior. He played football at Brown University.
Jim Halloran (football, '64) -- A two-year starter at right tackle, he earned all-city and all-state accolades. He played at Ohio University until an injury ended his career.
Anthony Hayek (tennis, '84) -- He was all-SVC two years, winning 39 of 43 matches. He qualified for the state meet in doubles as a senior and led the Cardinals to one SVC championship and one runner-up spot.
Kathy Keffler Apple (basketball, '82) -- She earned four letters as the team went 61-19 with two conference championships. She averaged 16 points per game as a senior and still ranks eighth all-time in rebounds.
Dennis Misko (basketball, '63) -- A two-year captain who earned several all-star plaudits, he went on to play three years at Canisius where he averaged 11 points and 13 rebounds for his career. He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills and a European professional basketball league.
Nancy Shugart (significant contributions) -- She coached girls track for eight years and was named Northeast Ohio coach of the year twice. She coached 12 athletes to All-Ohio honors and has been football statistician since 1991.
Mark Stoops (baseball/football, '85) -- He's the fourth member of the Stoops family to be inducted and was a two-way starter in football and all-star infielder in baseball. He was an all-conference selection in both sports before going on to a football career at Iowa, where he participated in four bowl games, earned three letters and started for two years at safety. He's the new defensive coordinator at Arizona, joining his brother Mike.
