BRACEVILLE Man finds 3 explosive devices in garage
The Youngstown Bomb Squad detonated the military anti-personnel mines.
BRACEVILLE -- Three explosive devices, thought to be old Claymore anti-personnel mines, were found Saturday afternoon in the loft of a two-car garage at 764 state Route 534.
A neighbor living at 744 state Route 534 had bought the property. The mines, thought to be from the Vietnam War era, were found just after 2 p.m. while the owner's son cleaned out the garage.
Trumbull County 911 sent Braceville police and fire crews to the scene, as well as the Youngstown Police Department Bomb Squad, which detonated the devices in a field behind the property, Braceville Police Lt. William Garro said.
The rectangular mines were found by Greg Posey, son of the man who owns the vacant property. Police said they did not have the father's name, but the telephone book lists a Floyd T. Posey living at that address.
A mystery
Garro said police have no idea how and when the mines were put in the garage because the former owner of the property is deceased, and there is no one else to ask. It is unknown if the mines were active.
Garro said the YPD bomb squad checked the area and found no other explosive devices.
