Web site of week: Go Math
Hearing your teacher explain a mathematical concept in class is one thing. Applying that concept to your math homework is quite another. Wouldn't it be nice to have a resource available to help you when you're stuck on a tricky problem or go over that theorem one more time? Well, if you have Internet access at home, the answer to your prayers is only a click away. Go Math (http://www.gomath.com) is your oasis in the desert of mathematical confusion.
Think of Go Math as an online tutor. It has several features to help pupils from kindergarten through the 12th grade get the most out of their math education. And it's all for free.
Having a tough time figuring out a problem? E-mail it to Go Math! The site promises to respond to sent questions within 24 hours or less. If you're having a tough time understanding a concept such as the Pythagorean theorem, you can access the site's interactive tutorials and quizzes. The tutorials give sample problems and show their solutions, step by step. If the SAT or another standardized test is in your future, these free tutorials reveal strategies that could save you valuable time.
One drawback to Go Math is that it is difficult to navigate. You can only access all of the site's sections on the index page.
Overall though, Go Math is a winner. Hopefully, it will make math class less intimidating and help you build confidence in your problem-solving skills.
