Committee meeting
STRUTHERS -- The Committee to Erect a Struthers Veterans Memorial will meet at 7 p.m. Monday Feb. 16 at Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 3538, 157 Lowellville Road.

Sent to Iraq
Army Pvt. Stephen R. Pelar has been sent to Iraq as a member of the 84th Engineer Combat Battalion at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Pelar is a carpentry and masonry specialist. He is the son of Pamela K. Welker of Struthers, and a 2002 graduate of Struthers High School.
Aboard destroyer
Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Hans B. Semple, son of Patrice M. and Edward E. Semple of Girard, is aboard the guided missile destroyer USS Gonzales in the Mediterranean Sea as part of the USS Enterprise Carrier Strike Group, the first aircraft carrier to deploy since the end of major military operations in Iraq. Semple is a 1991 graduate of Girard High School.
