CLEVELAND -- Mike Monserez hit a 12-foot jumper with one-tenth of a second remaining to give Butler a 57-56 win over Cleveland State Thursday night, extending the Vikings' school-record losing streak to 18.
The winning basket would have been a buzzer beater, except the buzzer didn't sound and the red light on the backboard did not light up to show time had expired.
The referees concluded Monserez got the shot off in time and put one-tenth of a second on the clock. Cleveland State's desperation toss down the court ended the game.
The Vikings (4-20, 0-13 Horizon League) shot 53 percent from the floor but went only 7-of-20 at the foul line.
Duane Lightfoot scored 17 points for the Bulldogs (11-11, 6-6).
Omari Westley, who led Cleveland State with 19 points, hit a jumper with 1:56 remaining to tie the score 52-all. Monserez hit a 3-pointer with 1:11 remaining, and Westley hit a jumper to cut Butler's lead to 55-54.
Jermain Robinson put in a layup with 16 seconds remaining to put Cleveland State ahead for the last time.
Wis.-Milwaukee 77, Loyola of Chicago 71
MILWAUKEE -- Dylan Page scored 26 points and Ed McCants added 21 for UW-Milwaukee (17-6, 12-1 HL).
Loyola (7-16, 3-10), which lost its third straight game, was led by Paul McMillan with 18 points and Demetrius Williams with 13.
