Run-walk eventslated in Warren
WARREN -- The first O'Donald's Rose & amp; Thistle St. Patrick's Day 5K Run and 1.5 Mile Walk/Fun Run is set for March 13. The event will benefit the Children's Rehabilitation Center.
The 5-kilometer (3-mile) run will start at 1 p.m. and the walk-run event will follow at 1:30. Both events will begin at the intersection of Youngstown Road and Central Parkway, using the same course as in previous St. Patrick's Day races.
Registration will begin at 11 a.m. at O'Donold's Irish Pub and Grill, 2774 Youngstown Road. Registrants in both events each will receive a T-shirt.
Entry fee is $12 if received by March 8, and $15 thereafter. Entry forms are available at the Warren YMCA or by calling (330) 369-3800 or (330) 369-8696 where more information is available.
Niles clubinstalls officers
NILES -- The Niles Football Mothers Club recently installed officers for 2004. They are president Bev Begalla, vice-president Kelly Pallante, treasurer Joni Razzano and secretary Marijane Perry.
The club plans several fund-raisers, including a pancake breakfast March 7 at Ciminero's Banquet Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Chaney-Campbellgirls game moved
CAMPBELL -- The Chaney High girls basketball game at Campbell Memorial, scheduled for Monday, has been moved to Wednesday. The junior varsity game will start at 6 p.m.
Crestview hirestwo coaches
COLUMBIANA -- The Crestview board of education hired two coaches, both on one-year supplemental contracts. Alicia Auer, a Crestview High graduate, will be the volleyball coach. Superintendent John Dilling said
Jason Jones, who coached the squad last fall, did not apply.
Dilling said Mark Fabian, who teaches high school science, will coach girls track.
Bates reaches 1,000points at Ohio
ATHENS -- Candace Bates, a senior on the Ohio University women's basketball team from Poland High, surpassed the 1,000-point career scoring mark Wednesday night.
Bates, a 5-foot-10 forward, scored 10 points in the Bobcats' 76-55 Mid-American Conference loss to Bowling Green to give her 1,004 for her career.
She became the 11th Ohio University player to reach 1,000 points, and the first to do it since Lori Moorman in 2002-03.
Bates leads the Bobcats in 3-point goals (32 for 1.5 a game), ranks No. 2 in scoring (9.2-point average) and is No. 3 in rebounding (3.1) and assists (1.3) averages.
She made a career-high six 3-point goals and 20 points in OU's 85-65 win over Buffalo last Saturday.
The Bobcats (9-12, 3-7 MAC) next will entertain Akron Monday night at 7:30 p.m. in a MAC game at the Convocation Center.
While at Poland, Bates set the school career scoring record with 1,260 points.

Bradley's lawyer asks judge to reconsider
CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Cleveland Indians outfielder Milton Bradley's attorney has asked a judge to reconsider a three-day jail sentence.
Bradley was charged with driving 52 mph in a 25-mph zone in August. He was also charged with failure to comply after police said he drove away without signing his speeding ticket.
Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Judge Lisa Coates dismissed the speeding violation. The failure to comply charge was reduced Wednesday to obstructing official business, a second degree misdemeanor.
OSU namesreceivers coach
COLUMBUS -- Rutgers assistant Darrell Hazell was hired Thursday as Ohio State's wide receivers coach.
Hazell, a native of Cinnaminson, N.J. and a 1986 graduate of Muskingum College, has spent the past three years as the wide receivers coach at Rutgers. He also served as the Scarlet Knights' assistant head coach in 2003.

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Fresh off a successful Davis Cup debut for the United States, Robby Ginepri lost 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 to Cyril Saulnier in the second round of the Siebel Open.
Seventh-seeded James Blake, ranked 37th, was eliminated, falling 6-4, 6-2 to Joachim Johansson.
Phelps impressive
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Michael Phelps ran away from a star-studded field in the 200-meter freestyle at the Spring National swimming championships for his third victory in three events.
The 18-year-old Phelps finished at 1:46.77, followed by Chad Carvin, one of seven Olympians in the race, at 1:49.03.
Lindsay Benko of Elkhart, Ind., won the women's 200 freestyle, her second national title in as many nights. Benko swam a 1:58.62 to win comfortably over Mary Hill of Atlanta.
U.S. fourth
GUADALAJARA, Mexico -- The United States finished fourth in a regional Olympic soccer qualifying tournament, falling to Honduras in a penalty shootout.
Honduras won the shootout 4-3 after the teams -- both out of the running for Olympic spots -- finished tied at 1. Alecko Eskandarian opened the scoring for the Americans in 50th minute, and Emil Martinez tied it in the 76th.
In the championship game, Diego Martinez scored in overtime to give Mexico a 1-0 victory over Costa Rica. Mexico and Costa Rica had already secured spots in the Athens Olympics.
