Last year: Tiger Woods won in his first start following knee surgery, beating Sweden's Carl Pettersson by four strokes.
Last week: Fiji's Vijay Singh won the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am by three strokes, his third victory in his last nine PGA Tour events and his 12th consecutive top-10 finish -- two away from the modern-day record set by Jack Nicklaus in 1977.
Notes: Woods, also the 1999 winner, is making his first start since tying for fourth in the season-opening Mercedes Championships. The Buick endorser grew up in Cypress, 80 miles north of Torrey Pines. ... Phil Mickelson won his hometown event in 1993, 2000 and 2001. He won the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic in his first start of the year, tied for seventh in the FBR Open and was third last week at Pebble Beach. ... The final two rounds will be played on the South Course, site of the 2008 U.S. Open. ... Spain's Jose Maria Olazabal won the 2002 tournament. ... The Nissan Open is next week at Riviera in Los Angeles. The 64-man Match Play Championship is the following week at La Costa in Carlsbad, opposite the Chrysler Classic of Tucson.

Television: The Golf Channel (Friday-Sunday, 1:30-4 p.m., 9-11:30 p.m.).
Last year: Argentina's Vicente Fernandez won for the first time since 1999, beating Tom Watson and Des Smyth by three strokes.
Last week: Bruce Fleisher won the Royal Caribbean Classic for the third time in six years, edging Dana Quigley by a stroke in Key Biscayne. Fleisher also won the 1999 tournament in his first senior start and successfully defended his title in 2000.
