Events planned to markCivil War anniversary
NEW MARKET, Va. (AP) -- More than 20 communities and historic sites in the Shenandoah Valley and southwest Virginia are coordinating on events to mark the 140th anniversary of the most pivotal year of the Civil War for the region.
It was 1864 when Union forces zeroed in on Confederate forces in western Virginia.
Throughout 2004, visitors are invited to experience that turbulent period through battle reenactments, seminars and living history exhibits.
The effort is being organized by Virginia Civil War Trails and the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation, and events are scheduled for weekends throughout the year.

Going to the Caribbean? Here are some options
NEW YORK (AP) -- Some people want nothing more than to lie on the beach when they plan a trip to the Caribbean.
But others are interested in varying their itineraries with jungle hikes, volcano views and sailing.
The February edition of Outside magazine attempts to bridge the gap with an article on the best resorts in the Caribbean where "creature comforts and adventure are not mutually exclusive."
The magazine's top 10 locales are: Laluna in Grenada; The Hermitage in Nevis; Anse Chastanet in St. Lucia; Tiamo Resorts in the Bahamas; Punta Caracol Acqua Lodge in Panama; Bitter End Yacht Club in the British Virgin Islands; Maroma Resort & amp; Spa in Mexico; Caneel Bay in the U.S. Virgin Islands; Turtle Inn in Belize, and Jake's in Jamaica.
