CVB money at issue
WARREN -- The lawyer for Trumbull County commissioners has requested a meeting with the county convention and visitor bureau board to discuss returning $200,000 that has accumulated in its board's bank account over several years.
In a letter last month, first assistant prosecutor James Misocky threatened to sue the convention board if the money was not returned to a county-controlled account.
Officials said no meeting has been scheduled.
2nd ward meeting
WARREN -- Councilman Alford L. Novak, D-2nd, will conduct a ward meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Packard Park Shelter House.
Representatives from North End Environmental Development, or NEED, are expected to attend to discuss the community garden and to ask for volunteers to participate. Spring cleanups also are to be scheduled.
Representatives of the police and fire departments also are expected to attend to talk about the upcoming income tax renewal on the March 2 ballot.
Panel seeks members
HUBBARD -- Hubbard Township is looking for residents to serve on its zoning board of appeals. No qualifications are needed. The board approves or denies zoning variances, conducts public hearings on issues, and rules on appeals of zoning regulations. Free gun safety kits
McDONALD -- The police department is distributing free firearms safety kits to village residents from 3 to 9 p.m. todayat Roosevelt Elementary. Police Chief Lou Ronghi said the 100 kits, which include a gunlock, are being provided by Project Child Safe, a nationwide child safety program.
Forming a commission
BROOKFIELD -- Trustees will meet at 7 p.m. Feb 18 in the administration building to form a zoning commission. A total of 14 people are needed to fill positions on the zoning board and the zoning board of appeals.
If the meeting draws enough interested residents, a motion to assemble a zoning commission will be put on the ballot in November.
Sanitary project
BROOKFIELD -- Trustees will conduct a question-and-answer session with officials in charge of the West Hill Sanitary Project at 7 p.m. March 9 in the Brookfield High School auditorium. Anyone interested in how officials will handle the installation of sanitary sewers on West Hill Street is invited.
Estimated water bills
LORDSTOWN -- Because of inclement weather, village officials were unable to read water meters on several streets. Affected streets are Highland Avenue, Tait Road, Burnett East, Brunstetter, Tod Avenue (all addresses south of 6830), Austintown-Warren Road, Hallock-Young Road, Goldner, Ina, Yerke-Young and Byron-Lin. Bills for customers in those areas will be estimated. All other customers are not affected and will receive bills in their respective cycles.
Ohio presidents
NILES -- Dr. George Knepper, a retired University of Akron professor, will present a program on President William McKinley and other Ohio presidents beginning at 2 p.m. Feb. 21 in the Clayman Community Room of the McKinley Birthplace Home and Research Center. Personnel matters
LORDSTOWN -- The village's board of public affairs will meet in special session at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Lordstown Administration Building, 1455 Salt Springs Road. The purpose of the meeting is to adjourn to executive session to discuss personnel matters.
The meeting will be followed by a work session to discuss the new 24-inch water main with the village engineer.
Strickland to speak
NILES -- The Trumbull County Young Democrats are having their first Roosevelt-Kennedy Dinner at 6 p.m. Sunday at Ciminero's Banquet Center. The keynote speaker will be U.S. Rep. Ted Strickland, D-6th. The cost is $25.
Memorial scholarship
COLUMBIANA -- The family of Patricia Hura has established a scholarship in her memory. Columbiana school officials said Columbiana High School seniors can apply for the $1,000 scholarship, which will be given this spring and annually thereafter.
The scholarship is through the alumni association, and the Hura family will select the winner each year. Hura was Columbiana superintendent from January 2002 until her death from cancer in October 2003. She also had been director at Trumbull County Career & amp; Technical Center.
