Packard to work on European van
THE VINDICATOR, YOUNGSTOWN
Delphi Packard Electric Systems will develop the entire electrical distribution system for a new commercial van Ford Motor Co. will sell in Europe.
Ford is planning a next-generation model for its Transit, Europe's best-selling commercial vehicle designed for medium hauling. The Transit is designed to provide carlike handling with hauling capabilities.
Packard began supplying the electrical system for the Transit last year.
Stefaan Vandevelde, director of European operations for Packard, said the contract for the new model shows that Packard has been able to reach Ford's quality and reliability standards.
"Winning Ford's Transit business is helping to establish Delphi as a supplier to Ford. Delphi is very pleased to have earned Ford's trust," he said.
Packard is based in Warren but has operations around the world. It is part of Michigan-based Delphi Corp., which is the world's largest auto parts supplier.
Delphi Corp. provides products and technologies to all European automotive manufacturers. It has 10 technical centers in Europe and 32 overall.
