Former tech teacher faces sex charge
LISBON -- A former teacher at Columbiana County Career and Technical Center faces a felony charge based on authorities' allegations that he fondled a female student.
Gary Grimes, 55, of New Cumberland, W.Va., appeared Wednessay at Columbiana County Common Pleas Court, where he was served with a secret indictment accusing him of gross sexual imposition.
The fourth-degree felony bears a maximum 18-month prison sentence and a $5,000 fine.
Grimes, who is free on bond, is accused of running his hand up an 11th-grader's skirt while she met with him in his office, county sheriff's Detective Allan Young said today.
The girl told school officials and her parents, who notified the sheriff's office. Grimes was a machine-trades instructor. He retired after authorities began probing the matter, Young said. Grimes will be arraigned at a later date.
