BOYS BASKETBALL Clemente exceeds 1,000-point mark in JFK's 54-51 loss
The senior guard scored 16 points against Hickory for 1,007 over his career.
WARREN -- Colin Clemente topped the 1,000-point career scoring mark Tuesday, but his Warren John F. Kennedy High boys basketball team lost to Hickory, 54-51.
Clemente, a senior guard, scored 16 points to give him 1,007 points with the Eagles (8-8).
John DiFiore and Anthony Olive each had 10 points, Chris Shaker grabbed five rebounds and Marc Rossi passed out five assists for JFK.
Jimmy O'Rourke hit three 3-point goals and scored 21 points to pace the Hornets (12-11), who took a 21-6 first-quarter lead.
Campbell 60, Chaney 53
YOUNGSTOWN -- Chris Melnick scored 12 of his 16 points in the first quarter to give the Red Devils a 15-10 lead. Campbell made 14-of-17 free throws in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Terrance Phillips had 10 points and eight rebounds for Campbell (12-4) while Darrin Johnson added 12 points.
James Torbett added eight points and eight rebounds, and Louie Samonas had seven points and six assists.
Dominique Peak scored 14 points and Ben Pearch added nine points and 12 rebounds for Chaney (4-11). Kelvin Shaw had 11 points and Kory Jackson had six assists.
Warren Harding 64, Wilson 49
WARREN -- The Raiders put 12 players in the scoring column in their non-conference win over Wilson.
Terrin Brown and David Urwin each had 12 points for Harding (12-4).
Chauncey Whitlow scored 18 points to pace Wilson (4-12), while Justin Maxwell added 11 and Bruce Smith 10.
Mooney 43, Ursuline 40
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mooney, which trailed 29-28 after three quarters, outscored Ursuline 15-11 in the fourth quarter in a Steel Valley Conference game.
Jeff Hehr paced Mooney (12-4, 1-1) with 19 points. Dave Zidian grabbed six rebounds.
Branndon Braxton led the Irish (5-11, 0-2) with 10 points and six rebounds. Earl Barron had six assists.
Fitch 55, Uniontown Lake 43
AUSTINTOWN -- Terrell Eargle scored nine of his 19 points in a big second quarter as Fitch defeated Uniontown Lake in a Federal League Tournament game.
The Blue Streaks (7-9, 2-6) took a 10-7 lead after one quarter. Then the Falcons (13-4, 6-2) used a 20-point second quarter to go up 27-23 at the break.
Mark Aikens scored 14 points for the Falcons.
Kacey Sommers scored 14 points for the Blue Streaks.
Canton GlenOak 73, Boardman 57
CANTON -- Jay Davis had 19 points and nine rebounds for Boardman. Jon Kocon added 12 points for the Spartans (6-10, 2-5).
Canton Heritage Christian 100, Youngstown Christian 55
YOUNGSTOWN -- Demaine Gulley scored 18 points to lead six Heritage Christian (14-1) players in double figures.
Steven Setnick scored 13 points to lead Youngstown Christian (8-7) while Mark Pecchia added 11 and Mike Byrdy 10.
Southeast 62, Rootstown 49
ROOTSTOWN -- Pat Divoky scored 17 points to lead Southeast, which outscored Rootstown 39-20 over the second and third quarters.
Sean Carwell and Micah Herndon each added 16 points for the Pirates (13-2, 9-2 Portage County League).
Kennedy Catholic 63, Sharpsville 44
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The Eagles (19-4), ahead 25-24 at the break, pulled away with a 17-9 surge in the third quarter, then iced it with a 21-11 effort in the final eight minutes.
Sharron Summerville paced the Eagles with 23 points. Alberic Kandy and David Jackson, who had 11 rebounds, added 15 and 10 points, respectively. Brandon Mirizio had five assists.
Mark Anglin led Sharpsville with 12 points.
