AUSTINTOWN Police seek known suspect in change scam at businesses
AUSTINTOWN -- Police are looking for a woman accused of stealing money from area stores by saying she had been short-changed by a clerk.
Lisa Fox, 33, also known as Lisa Minerd, is wanted on a warrant for theft by deception. Her last known address is 2728 Newbern Circle, Youngstown.
Police said Fox is white, 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs about 180 pounds and has brown eyes and brown hair.
Detective Sgt. Dan Kosco said Fox bought items, pocketed the change, and then told store clerks she had not received a portion of the change. Kosco said Fox has used the scheme to steal money from stores in Austintown and Niles.
A clerk from Sav-A-Step on Mahoning Avenue told police that on Jan. 27, Fox bought a pack of cigarettes with $20 and received $17.06 in change. Fox turned around, placed $10 in her pocket, and then told the clerk she had received only $7.06 in change, the clerk said.
The clerk told Fox she had given the right amount of change and threatened to call police.
Fox then asked the clerk to call her if she later discovered she had not given the right amount of change. She gave the clerk two phone numbers and left.
One of the phone numbers belongs to a pizzeria, the other to a Warren woman. The Warren woman told police she has received several calls for Fox from area businesses.
