Pennsylvania State Police said Nathan Andrews Horstman, 34, of P.O. Box 1058, Grove City, had a fully loaded Glock model 26.9 mm semiautomatic pistol, two large hunting knives and a Logun .22-caliber high-powered pellet rifle.
He is employed as a cottage parent at the school.
Horstman was arrested at 3 p.m. Sunday and arraigned by District Justice Lawrence Silvis. He was placed in Mercer County Jail in lieu of $20,000 straight bond.
The pitfalls of potholes
SALEM -- City Service Director Joe Julian told city council last week that this year's particularly harsh winter was sowing a bumper crop of potholes. He wasn't kidding.
Police responded to two reports this weekend prompted by road craters.
Officers were called to the 1500 block of East State Street to remove a large chunk of asphalt that had heaved up from the road. The obstacle was removed and the remaining hole was added to the city's ever-growing patch list.
A Cambridge, Ohio, woman reported that the two passenger-side tires of her 2004 PT Cruiser were flattened when she rolled through a pothole on the 900 block of East State Street.
House's furniture stolen
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Most of the furniture at a Sankey Street home was taken sometime overnight from Friday to Saturday.
City police said someone broke the back window and took a kitchen table and six chairs, a love seat and sofa, end tables, coffee table, lamps, 52-inch and 32-inch color televisions, DVD player, a video cassette recorder and an X-Box.
The owner is away on vacation and a person checking on the home discovered the items were missing, police said.
Fake $20 bill passed
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Neshannock Township police are searching for the person who passed a fake $20 bill at Dunkin Donuts on Wilmington Road.
The counterfeit money was used sometime Saturday. Police said the Secret Service has been called to investigate.
Erroneous tax bills sent
LISBON -- Some Columbiana County property owners who pay their real-estate taxes through their bank as part of mortgage payments erroneously received bills for the taxes, the county treasurer's office said.
Taxpayers who received the bills in error should disregard them, an office spokeswoman said today.
The bills were mistakenly sent by a company that is redesigning the county's tax bill.
The slip prompted dozens of calls to the treasurer's office last week from anxious taxpayers, who were assured their bank is continuing to pay the taxes.
Accused in store break-in
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Two men are accused of breaking into Sam's Food Mart on Croton Avenue and taking $119 worth of cigarettes.
Heyward "Hank" Ritter, no age or address listed, and Brett Klingensmith, 24, listed as being homeless, are charged with burglary, criminal trespass, possession of instruments of crime, theft, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief.
Police said they were alerted by an alarm at the store at 2:58 a.m. Sunday and saw two men wearing ski masks running off. The men were arrested a short distance from the store, they said.
