Thomas scored his first 10 points in the third quarter -- hitting all five shots -- as New York took a 63-54 lead. The Knicks shot 43 percent and led 43-36 at halftime. The Heat hit just seven of 13 free throws. Marbury scored 11 points, including three 3-pointers, to help the Knicks take a 19-17 lead after one quarter. Odom had six rebounds but only one point in the period.
Rockets 86, Hawks 77
ATLANTA -- Cuttino Mobley scored 13 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter and Houston overcame a 14-point deficit. PHILADELPHIA -- Paul Pierce scored 35 points, helping Boston snap a six-game losing streak and give interim coach John Carroll his first victory. Ricky Davis had 20 points and Walter McCarty added 16 for Boston, which hadn't won since Jan. 23 against Washington. Carroll, who took over Jan. 27 when Jim O'Brien resigned, had lost his first five games. Glenn Robinson scored 19 points, and Allen Iverson had 15 for the Sixers, who have lost 10 of 13. Philadelphia was coming off a 23-point victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, but was out of this game from the start. Pierce was 10-for-18 from the floor, 13-for-15 from the foul line. McCarty was 4-for-6 from 3-point range. He came off the bench to hit three 3s in a two-minute span early in the first quarter. Iverson, who had 39 points against the Lakers, missed 15 of his 20 shots. Iverson didn't take his first shot until 6:52 remained in the first quarter when he airballed a 19-footer. The Sixers got within four on a jumper by Iverson late in the first quarter, but the Celtics scored the next six points and led by double digits the rest of the way.
