BOYS BASKETBALL Farrell hands Kennedy fourth loss in 22 games

HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The Farrell High boys basketball team got off to a quick start and outscored Kennedy Catholic in each quarter as the Steelers prevailed 50-29 Saturday.
Chris Blue scored 14 points and Brian Dunddee 11 for Farrell, which handed Kennedy just its fourth loss in 22 games.
Sharron Summerville had 11 points for Kennedy, while teammate Blair Rozenblad, a freshman, grabbed nine of his team's 25 rebounds.
Chaney 63, Struthers 58
YOUNGSTOWN -- Chaney made only half of its 31 free-throw attempts, but thanks to Kelvin Shaw the Cowboys weathered the storm for a victory over Struthers.
Shaw, a 6-foot-2 senior guard who is averaging 19 points per game, made six goals and 11-of-16 free throws for 23 points to help keep Chaney afloat en route to its fourth victory in 14 games. Shaw produced 16 of his points in the first half before Struthers (3-13) came back with a strong third period.
The Wildcats pulled within six points at 42-36 on back-to-back 3-pointers by Tim Zetts and Dave Mathews.
Of Chaney's 23 points in the fourth, Dominique Peak had nine points, while Jeremy Tomlin scored eight. Peak and Tomlin finished with 17 and 11, respectively.
Ben Pearch, a 6-1 senior center, had 15 of Chaney's 42 rebounds, while Tom and Kory Jackson each had six assists.
For Struthers, Mike Duponty tallied 17 points, while Jose Martinez had 11. Mathews had nine points and seven assists, while Zetts had nine rebounds for the Wildcats.
Austintown Fitch 51, Ashtabula Lakeside 35
AUSTINTOWN -- Seniors Terrell Eargle and Mark Aikens combined for 39 points as Fitch defeated visiting Lakeside.
Eargle scored 20 points and Aikens added 19 as the Falcons (12-4) pulled away with a 23-10 surge in the fourth quarter.
Fitch also geared up for the Federal League tournament. The Falcons earned the third seed in pairings released Saturday and will play host to Uniontown Lake on Tuesday.
