SHARON, Pa. -- Four people who dropped out of the application process for a vacant city council seat last month and the city's fire chief say they want to be considered for another council vacancy.
Fire Chief Arthur Scarmack Jr. didn't apply when council sought applicants to fill the seat of the late Lou Rotunno, who died in November.
He has, however, submitted his name for consideration for the vacant post of the late George Gulla, who died in January.
Scarmack is eligible to retire and would have to resign his position as fire chief should he get the appointment.
Scarmack and Shirley Major-Friday, Gerald Mitchell, Alice Reiner and Frank Tarbay will all be given an opportunity to make a three-minute speech before city council in an interview session set for 4 p.m. Monday in council chambers.
Council members may then ask them questions.

They will join a list of 15 other applicants who sought the Rotunno appointment and indicated to council that they also want to be considered for the Gulla post.
Those 15 were interviewed during the last search and won't be interviewed or asked to address council again.
The 15 are: former councilman Raymond Fabian, the Rev. Lora Adams-King, David E. Bailey Jr., Jennifer Barborak, Joseph Biro Jr., Francis P. Connelly, Atty. Thomas A. Dill, Thomas W. Hall Sr., Atty. Victor Heutsche, John Pacsi, Michael Seaman, Kirk C. Sieg II, Carol Swartz, Marlene Torrence and Linda Valentino.
Hall had the endorsement of the Sharon Democrat Committee last time but that body won't be making any endorsement this time.
All four current council members are Democrats.
Council will make the appointment in a special meeting set for 5 p.m. Monday. An appointee must win the seat by at least a 3-1 vote.
A tie vote means Mayor David O. Ryan would be called on to cast a tie-breaking vote.
