MEDICAL SOCIETY Dr. Chander Kohli named distinguished physician
Dr. Marc S. Saunders was installed as president during the annual meeting.
BOARDMAN -- Dr. Chander M. Kohli was recognized as the Mahoning County Medical Society's 2003 Distinguished Physician at the society's annual meeting Jan. 27 at the Holiday Inn.
Dr. Subbarayudu Cuddapah, who nominated Kohli for the honor, presented the award.
Born in Mandibaudin, India, Kohli graduated in 1962 from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. He completed his internship and surgical residency at Elyria Memorial Hospital and his neurosurgical residency at University Hospital, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
He is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons, and is on the staff at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Forum Health and Sharon Regional Health System.
Kohli is chairman of the Youngstown State University and St. Elizabeth Foundation boards of trustees, and is vice chairman of the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine board of trustees. He is a clinical professor of neurosurgery at NEOUCOM.
He and his wife, Karen, have two children.
Also honored at the society dinner were recipients of the Ohio State Medical Association's Fifty Years in Medicine Award: Drs. James Might, internal medicine; Sanford Weiss, radiology; and Marshall Lowry, anesthesiology.

Dr. Marc S. Saunders was installed as the 132nd president of the society. He is the first to serve two terms as president since the early 1900s.
A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Saunders received his medical education at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and did his surgical residency at St. Elizabeth's. He is a board-certified surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He maintains a private practice in Boardman.
Other physicians installed were Dr. Ronald M. Yarab, president-elect; Dr. Janardan Tallam, secretary-treasurer; Drs. Denise Bobovnyik and Kohli, delegates to the Ohio State Medical Association; Drs. Ronald Dwinnells and Thomas Traikoff, alternate delegates to OSMA; Drs. Robert DeMarco, Richard Marina and Patrick Stocker, council members of the society; and Drs. David Dunch and Norton German, foundation trustees.
