Youngstown Dayat Pirates game
PITTSBURGH -- Youngstown Community Day will be celebrated May 22 when the Pittsburgh Pirates play host to the Milwaukee Brewers at 7 p.m. at PNC Park.
Figurines of Omar Moreno will be given to all fans.

Jonathon Doylehonored by college
HUNTINGTON, Ind. -- Jonathan Doyle, a senior for the Huntington College indoor track team from Boardman High, has been named Huntington's male athlete of the week for Jan. 26-Feb. 1.
Doyle qualified provisionally for the NAIA indoor national championships in the 55-meter hurdles at the Findlay Invitational.
Doyle was timed in 8.02 seconds in the final for sixth place, after posting 8.17 in the preliminary.
It was the second time that Doyle qualified for the NAIA national championships. He made it to the 2002 national meet in the 55-meter hurdles.
The NAIA national meet is March 4-6 in Johnson City, Tenn.
Doyle is majoring in exercise science.
Ursuline-Mooneygame is rescheduled
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Ursuline-Cardinal Mooney boys high school basketball game, which was postponed Jan. 23, has been rescheduled for Tuesday at Ursuline at 7:30 p.m., preceded by the junior varsity game.
Phantoms' Fetzerto play at Miami
BOARDMAN -- The Youngstown Phantoms Junior-A hockey club announced that defenseman Charley Fetzer has accepted a scholarship to play for Miami (Ohio) University next season.
Fetzer, a 6-foot-1, 190-pounder from Chicago, has appeared in 38 games for Youngstown this season and collected 13 points (six goals, seven assists).
The 18-year-old Fetzer, who is the Phantoms' captain, played for the USHL's Green Bay Gamblers last season.
Miami, a member of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA), has a 16-9-3 heading into a home series with Notre Dame this weekend. The Redhawks are in first place in the CCHA and ranked seventh in the nation.
The Phantoms (19-14-7) will be in Springfield (Ill.) this weekend for a pair of games against the Junior Blues (27-10-2). Face-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. today and 7 p.m. Saturday.
Youngstown will next play at home on Feb. 13-14 against the Toledo Ice Diggers in a pair of 7 p.m. games.
Poland hockey teamdefeats Chagrin Falls
AURORA -- Rob Wyand scored three goals and Jim Pasquine added two goals and three assists as the Poland High ice hockey club team defeated Chagrin Falls 8-1 Thursday.
Brett Pitzulo had one goal and four assists, while David Cornich and Tyler Souder each added a goal for Poland.
Ursuline to hostwrestling tournament
YOUNGSTOWN -- Ursuline High will play host to the first Bishop's Cup wrestling tournament Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m.
Joining the Irish in the four-school tourney will be Warren JFK, Canton Central Catholic and Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas.
Stadium renamed
NILES -- The Cafaro Company announced Thursday that Cafaro Field, home of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, will be renamed Eastwood Field this summer.
The name change was done to unify the baseball stadium with its neighbor, the Eastwood Mall.
The stadium opened in 1999 and is also home to the Youngstown State baseball team.
Slippery Rock invites all kids to their games
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University will sponsor a "Take A Kid to the Game" event Saturday as part of its basketball doubleheader against Shippensburg University.
Children ages 14 and under will be admitted free to the games, as well as be guests of honor at a pre-game picnic at 11:45 a.m. in Morrow Field House.
The women's game begins at 1 p.m. with the men's game to follow.
Henson cut loose
NEW YORK -- Drew Henson was put on waivers by the New York Yankees after agreeing to terminate his contract.
