NHL Turco puts clamps on Blue Jackets, 1-0
Behind the standout goalie, Dallas padded its unbeaten streak to seven.
DALLAS (AP) -- The minutes keep piling up for Dallas Stars goaltender Marty Turco. So do the wins.
Turco stopped 18 shots for his fifth shutout and NHL-best 26th win Wednesday night, and the Stars extended their unbeaten streak to seven games with a 1-0 win over Columbus.
Turco has played in 29 straight games for Dallas, all but one of them starts. He has missed just two of the Stars' 56 games and has already played 3,202 minutes -- one short of his total last season.
"He looks at me like it's kind of an insult if he's not playing," Stars coach Dave Tippett said. "He wants to be the guy."
In All-Star game
Turco won't get much of a break, even though the Stars played their only game in 10 days. He is the Western Conference starter for Sunday's All-Star game.
The Stars got the only goal they would need when Jason Arnott scored on a backhanded shot with 13:01 remaining in the second period. Arnott's 13th goal came after Steve Ott's pass from against the boards in the corner.
"The way Marty's playing right now, we know if we get a couple, we're going to win," Arnott said. "We were cycling the puck and Otter made a great pass."
Turco has won all seven of his career games against Columbus, with a .915 save percentage (140-of-153).
"When you're making all of the saves, it's beneficial for success," Turco said. "It was important the standard of play we have set over the last month. The defensemen and forwards have done a great job. There wasn't one second save I had to make."
Worst road record
Columbus has the NHL's worst road record at 3-16-4-2.
The Blue Jackets were again without NHL goal-scoring leader Rick Nash, the 19-year-old left wing who missed his second straight game because of a bruised left foot.
Nash, who has 31 goals, was scheduled to skate today to determine if he can play in the All-Star game.
