GIRLS ROUNDUP Springfield 16-0 following romp



Maplewood earned at least a tie for the Northeastern Athletic Conference crown.
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- The Springfield High girls basketball team had 61 rebounds in its 70-47 victory over Mathews in an Inter-County League game Thursday.
Trailing 30-28 at the break, Springfield (16-0, 10-0 ICL) pulled away with a 22-10 surge in the third quarter, then outscored the Mustangs 18-7 in the final eight minutes.
Angelina Fiumara of the Tigers led a balanced scoring attack with 18 points. Also for Springfield, Carrie Davis had 17 points and 18 rebounds and Lindsay Johnson 17 points and 16 rebounds.
Tara Ford paced Mathews (7-8, 3-6) with 15 points.
Jackson-Milton 44,Western Reserve 35
BERLIN CENTER -- Sarah Johnson scored eight of her 18 points in the first quarter when the Bluejays (8-7, 5-4 ICL) jumped out to a 15-1 lead.
Rachel Karash added eight points.
For the Blue Devils (3-11, 1-8), Emily Johnson scored 12 points.
McDonald 50, Mineral Ridge 32
MINERAL RIDGE -- Ashleigh Tondo scored 18 points, Michelle Krumpak added 11 points and Amy Dolsak had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Blue Devils (10-6, 6-4 ICL).
Rachel Siler had 12 points and 17 rebounds and Abbey Kiger 12 rebounds for Mineral Ridge (2-13, 0-9).
Girard 39, Lakeview 23
GIRARD -- Cachet Murray had 14 points and 11 rebounds and the Indians' defense flustered Lakeview in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game.
Lora Doran also grabbed 10 rebounds for Girard (16-1, 11-0).
Christina Martin led Lakeview (5-10, 4-6) with 12 points.
Hubbard 56, Brookfield 39
HUBBARD -- The Eagles (11-4, 9-1) stayed in contention for the TAC title.
Hubbard built a secure 40-27 lead by the end of the third quarter.
Lynle Cornell took scoring honors for Hubbard with 20 points. Loni Sargent chipped in with 11 and she grabbed 17 rebounds.
Jackie Rust and Raquel Brenner led the Warriors (9-8, 6-5) with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Liberty 49, Newton Falls 31
NEWTON FALLS -- Lena Esmail scored half of her 18 points in the second quarter for the Leopards (13-4, 8-3 TAC).
The Tigers (2-13, 1-9) were tied 12-all after eight minutes but fell behind 22-15 at the half and 37-19 entering the final quarter.
Emily Montgomery scored eight points for Newton Falls.
Crestview 42, East Palestine 33
EAST PALESTINE -- The Rebels, behind 24-22 at the break, pulled away with a 13-5 spurt in the third quarter in the Tri-County League contest.
Katie Kibby sparked the Rebels (14-2, 9-1) with 23 points. Elyse Mongillo had six assists and five steals.
Amanda Mesmer paced the Bulldogs (4-11, 2-7) with 12 points and she grabbed four rebounds. Adyson Mascher had five steals.
United 65, Southern 18
SALINEVILLE -- Trista Houck scored 22 points and Ashley Bergman added 10 points for United (8-8, 3-7 TCL).
The Indians were outscored 26-6 in the second quarter to fall behind 38-8 at the break.
Maplewood 46, Lordstown 13
MECCA -- Maplewood earned at least a tie for the Northeastern Athletic Conference championship.
Junior center Stephanie Schwartz collected 16 points and seven rebounds for the Rockets (17-1, 10-0 NAC).
The Rockets have won 12 in a row.
