CANFIELD -- Lee Unkefer was elected president of the Canfield Harness Horsemen's Association during a meeting Jan. 22 at the Colonial Inn at Canfield Fairgrounds.
Serving with the new president are Phil Bierdeman, vice president; Caroline Hake, secretary; Sue Randall, assistant secretary; and Brenda Bates, treasurer.
New directors Joe Vitullo, Jerry Ross Jr. and Lee Sandstrom join other directors, Harold Hake and Ron Stacy.
Leaving the presidency after 20 years of leadership is Dominic Staffrey with his wife, Jeanne, who was secretary-treasurer.
The organization has conducted harness horse races in conjunction with the Canfield Fair. The group received the Richard Brandt Award at the annual CHHA meeting in Columbus and was awarded $1,000 and a plaque.
An officers and directors meeting will be held Wednesday at the Staffrey home in Canfield to re-organize and discuss 2004 plans and projects. A new radio celebrity race at the Canfield Fair will be on the agenda.
