BOARDMAN -- A quiet neighborhood here was hit with police sirens and lights this morning as police began investigating an apparent homicide.
The white two-story house at 235 Oakley Avenue had been surrounded by yellow police tape and officers waiting to enter the house. A small blue Chevrolet pickup sat to one side of the driveway.
Man in custory
A 56-year-old Boardman man was in police custody this morning after officers said he admitted he killed his wife.
The man, who lives at 235 Oakley Ave., called the police department about 9 a.m. today to say he had stabbed his wife at about 8 a.m. Thursday, said township police Capt. Jack Nichols.
The man said he had sat with her body all day Thursday, but by this morning he assumed her workplace would call the home and decided to turn himself in to police.
Nichols said police were not releasing the man's name pending official charges.
They also were not releasing the victim's name pending results of a search warrant.
Neighbors and phone directories, however, say the home is occupied by Joseph Nazarini and 52-year-old Denise Nazarini.
No prior calls
Nichols said the man was unemployed and experiencing financial distress. Police had not been called to the house before this.
When police arrived at his home, the man met officers in his driveway. Police later found the woman's body inside the residence.
Police Chief Jeffrey Patterson said officers first determined the woman was deceased and were waiting on a search warrant before thoroughly going through the house.
Neighbors said the couple generally kept to themselves, not having much contact with others in the neighborhood.
Some said Denise Nazarini would sometimes be seen walking through the neighborhood and offer a quick wave to neighbors who happened to be outside.
Neighbors, who did not want to be named, said they had not heard any disturbances from the house in the past.
