YOUNGSTOWN | City health board
The health board handled these matters Monday.
Asked Law Director John McNally to prepare legislation for the board to enter into grant agreements with the Ohio Department of Health for several ongoing programs for this year.
Among the proposed grant agreements is $25,000 for the dental sealant program which, when added to $15,760 in health board funds, pays for tooth sealant for children in the second and sixth grades in Youngstown City Schools as a cavity preventing measure. A dentist examines the children and recommends follow-up dental care when appropriate. The program has been "immensely successful" in preventing cavities, said Health Commissioner Neil H. Altman.
Other grants include:
$119,159 from ODH grant to continue the board's immunization program. The amount was $125,430 in 2003.
$41,141 from ODH which, when added to $5,000 in board money, would provide $46,141 for the board's sexually transmitted disease clinic program.
Other board actions include requests to appropriate money for these board programs: child health services, $31,250; group home inspection, $12,000; health clinic services, $63,500; home health services, $31,500; summer food service inspection, $4,400.
