More educational servicesdue with 100 anniversary
YOUNGSTOWN -- Visiting Nurse Association is expanding its service area and making plans to offer more educational services to senior citizens as it celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.
Suzanne Tucci, chief executive, said the home care agency was founded in 1904, but its home care services are more in demand today because hospital stays are shorter and patients are sent home with more intense medical needs.
The geriatric population is also growing in the region, she said, and many choose to stay at home and rely on home care to meet their medical needs.
One concern the VNA has, Tucci said, is that clients are sometimes unable to get funding from Medicare or their private insurance plans to pay for the home care they need. The agency is looking for more funding sources so that it can add more programs for the elderly while maintaining its services.
