GREENVILLE, Pa. -- UPMC Horizon opened a Wound Care Center in December, the most recent of a number of major facility improvements.
UPMC Horizon, with facilities in Greenville and Farrell, Pa., is part of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and has been ranked best in patient in satisfaction among UPMC hospitals for the past three years.
Dean Eckenrode, chief executive officer, said the high costs of medical malpractice insurance will continue to negatively impact the recruitment and retention of new physicians and nurses.
The challenge for Horizon, given reimbursement for services and competitive issues, such as the establishment of private entrepreneurial ventures in health care, is to maintain its position and offer services that better satisfy customers, he said.
Looking ahead, Eckenrode said the health care delivery system will be restructured, possibly through consolidation, to eliminate unnecessary duplication and to improve financial performance.
Revenues rose from $87.9 million in 2002 to $95.3 million in 2003.
